This machine comes with an Extra Large Bobbin which holds up to 40% more thread compared to regular bobbins, allowing you to sew longer sessions without winding. This is particular an advantage for large projects such as quilts or long seams in garment sewing.

The best part is that there is no need to remove the sewing project thanks to the side-loading access to the bobbin. In addition, the all-metal bobbin case gives more stability. Combined with the Rotary Hook, you will get flawless results.

What is a Straight Stitch Machine?

The straight stitch sewing machines is optimized for precise and efficient straight stitches. With a fixed needle position, it excels at producing flawless straight stitches on a wide range of sewing projects, from garment and bag making to quilting and home decor. The bernette 08 features a stitch length up to 6 mm, a fast and powerful motor, a smooth feeding mechanism and simple controls for easy operation. In contrast to a conventional sewing machine, a straight stitch machine like our bernette 08 focuses on perfect straight stitches, making it the ideal choice for both novice and seasoned sewists, thanks to its simplicity, performance, durability and user-friendly operation.

Can I use a regular household sewing machine needle with the b08 Straight Stitch?

The bernette 08 requires high speed machine needles of type HLx5. We recommend using Schmetz High Speed HLx5 needles. Compared to regular household sewing machine needles, these needles feature a flat shank that is smaller. They are also stronger so they can sew faster and through multiple layers of challenging materials. The slightly rounded point ensures sewing through a variety of materials even at high speed without damaging fabrics. The use of regular household sewing machine needles is not recommended.

Can I use the same thick thread for the bobbin?

Yes. The bobbin can be wound with the same thick thread used as the upper thread.

Does the machine have to be threaded differently depending on the thread thickness?

Yes, depending on the thread thickness, and its tendency to twist different threading paths should be followed.

Threading the Upper Thread

What size does the bobbin have?

The b08 bobbin (on the right side) is unique to this model only. Thanks to its size it holds up to 40% more thread than a standard bobbin.

What material is the bobbin made of?

The bobbin is made of anodized aluminum. Anodizing makes the aluminum particularly corrosion-resistant and increases the strength of the material. As a result, your bobbin remains visually attractive and extremely durable for longer.

What feet are included with the b08 Straight Stitch?

The b08 Straight Stitch comes with two presser feet: the Straight Stitch Foot and the Narrow Straight Stitch Foot.

In general, the Straight Stitch Foot is commonly used for both lightweight and heavyweight fabrics. The specific foot features a flat bottom, ensuring consistent pressure on the feed dogs, and it has a rounded needle opening. This design helps to avoid skipped stitches and reduces puckering.

The Narrow Straight Stitch Foot is an ideal alternative to the regular Straight Stitch Foot. Its streamlined design makes it a fantastic tool for sewing piping or flanged trims, enabling you to work closely and achieve a professional look.

I would like to quilt with the b08. Can I drop the feed dog?

To be able to quilt with the machine, the feed dog is covered with the Darning Plate. Therefore, the feed dog does not need to be dropped. The Darning Plate is available either as an individual set with the Darning Foot or included in the Quilt Making Set.
